Have you ever wanted to try out backpacking and backcountry camping, but didn’t know where to begin? Have you ever wanted to canoe one of the beautiful rivers of Wisconsin but didn't have the proper gear? Well, Camp Gray has the answer. Camp now offers guided wilderness trips for families and groups over long-weekends in the spring and fall. Visit places like Shining Cloud Falls the shores of Lake Superior, and Cedar Creek rapids.

Purpose of Voyageur Expeditions:

These trips are designed to teach skills like low-impact camping, outdoor cooking, and wilderness survival, as well as simply introducing people to the beauty of backpacking in pristine old-growth forest. More importantly, the trips offer a chance for physical, emotional, and spiritual growth for the whole family or group.

Camp provides all the group gear like stoves, tents, filters, and food, and much of the personal gear including backpacks, sleeping bags and sleeping pads. Don't worry we'll also send you a packing list of things you'll need to bring yourself. The cost of one of the full 3-day, 2-night trips is $150 per person.

Backyard Backpacking:

We recognize that many of our families and groups would love to try out backpacking but can't get away from work or school on a Friday to make it to one of our three day trips to the Porkies or elsewhere.

So we're now offering Voyageur Expeditions trips a bit closer to home through our Backyard Backpacking program. These trips will go to the Ice Age trail around Devil's Lake State Park, which is about a 20 minute drive from Camp Gray.

The trip will begin on a Saturday morning, we'll spend a night in tents out on trail, and we'll finish up hiking on Sunday afternoon. It is meant to give participants a small taste of backpacking and wilderness camping without ever getting too far away from home. Camp will still provide all the gear (except clothing.) and guides for the trip. The cost for a Backyard Backpacking trip is only $85 per person.

This PDF file also contains more detailed information about the trips and a packing list so you know exactly what to bring for your adventure. We will send you a Waiver form and a Health History form for each trip member once we have received your Voyageur Expedition application.
