Voyageur Program |
 |
|
Do you
hear that? It's the call of the Wild.
You're invited to share in the adventure.
The Voyageur program takes campers into the wilderness for a fun, challenging,
and powerful experience. Voyageurs take trips to the north woods, lakes, and
rivers of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota. While you're out on a trip, you'll
be either paddling or hiking by day and moving to a new campsite each night.
You'll learn how to pack your gear, build a fire, cook in the wild, filter
water, and more. You'll also meet new people and form tight friendships with the
other campers on your trip as you voyage together.
Don't worry if you don't have experience
on trips like these or have never been camping. The trips are designed around
group age and ability. The Voyageur counselors are specially trained to keep you
safe and teach you all about how to live and camp in the woods.

Voyageur I Trips:
(grades 8-9)
-
Namekagon/St. Croix River Canoe Trip - Who's up for some J-strokes?!
Steer the rapids of Northwestern Wisconsin's Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers with
favorite counselors and God in charge! You will learn canoe camping
skills, and sing and pray around the campfire with old camp friends.
On the trip you'll see unspoiled wilderness, watch bald eagles search for fish
in the river, camp along the river at canoe-only campsites, and run some
super-fun rapids. We will review paddling skills before we go, but any paddling
experience is very helpful for this trip.
-
Superior
Hiking Trail Backpacking Trip - On these introductory backpacking trips, you
will be challenged to "get back to the basics," taking only what you need
for fun, fellowship, and camping along the Superior Hiking Trail along the
north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota.
Challenging hiking, beautiful views, and a fresh breath of life will be your
reward! The Voyageur I hiking trips are divided into either all
boys and all girl trips.
Voyageur II Trips:
(grades 10-12)
-
Flambeau
River Canoe Trip - If extra challenge is what you are looking for,
this Flambeau river trip fits the bill. Located in central Wisconsin the
Flambeau river offers an great mix of flat water where you'll get a chance to
hone your paddling skills and challenging class I and class II rapids. You
will paddle during the day, taking breaks for lunch, scouting, swimming, and
other fun, and you'll camp at riverside campsites at night. Everything that
you'll need for the trip, you'll take with you in special dry bags that will
keep the water out of your clothes and gear. Although we will review paddling
skills before we go, paddling experience is very helpful for this trip.
-
Porcupine Mountains Backpacking Trip - As you hike the old-growth
forests in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and share and pray together, you will
experience community in a whole new way. The Porcupine Mountains are one of the
premier hiking locations in the Midwest, offering a wide variety of scenery from
rivers, to uncut virgin forest, to ridgelines, to the shores of Lake Superior.
Experience simple living as the group carries all the gear and food they need
for the week in specialized backpacks from site to site on the trip. Learn how
good food tastes after hiking for 8-10 miles and cooking it yourself. Experience
what it's like to truly depend on your counselors and fellow campers for your
food, water, friendship, and fun. Campers have said that this trip is a
life-changing experience and they have made some life-long bonds with their
fellow hikers.
Voyageur Boundary Waters Trip:
(grades 10-13)
-
Boundary
Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Trip -
This 11-day canoe adventure is designed to test your limits and teach
leadership skills through hands-on experience. You'll paddle through the
pristine Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, portage from lake to lake,
spot bald eagles, moose and other wildlife, and grow together as a group as
you paddle and camp together away from civilization. Not for the faint of
heart, this program promises to be a challenging and fun adventure. It is
available for current 12th grade graduates as well.
